Skype in the Classroom - Just Say Hello

Skype in the Classroom is a an online community that connects educators, experts, and students through global learning and collaboration activities using Skype communication software. Skype partnered with O, The Operah Magazine to launch an in-schoool "Just Say Hello" program into schools to underscore the importance of personal connections.

As the Lead UX Designer in the internal Skype Marketing Web Team, I provided guidance on user-centric design and direction on how to use the internal platform Oasis. Worked with an external design lead to utilize the accumulated assets and achieve the needs and goals based on the marketing strategy. The website was media rich - with modules containing images, videos, and a carousel. The goal is to further position Skype in the classroom as a leader in transforming learning by highlighting Skype as an enabler of meaningful connections while driving teachers to sign up and parents to encourage educators to do the same.

As Dr. Sanjay Gupta has found, loneliness can have a detrimental effect on education, undermining learning and causing memory loss. Encouraging inclusion at a young age is a critical factor in helping kids feel engaged and excited about learning. In today’s digital world, where bullying is a reality faced by many young people, it’s even easier to feel left out and disconnected. Our mission: to help tweens and teens feel more included and be more inclusive.
The focus of O, The Oprah Magazine’s Just Say Hello campaign is to underscore the importance of personal connections to students while they’re young. Our goal is to create an environment where they can thrive. Through Skype in the Classroom, teachers and students are able to meet new people, discovering different cultures on different continents without stepping outside the classroom.
